Body & Soul - Jazz Piano Body and Soul is a popular jazz song, music written in 1930 by Johnny Green If you need the sheet music of "Body and Soul" Standard just click here: www.jazz-styles.com "Body and Soul" is a popular song written in 1930 by Edward Heyman, Robert Sour, Frank Eyton and Johnny Green. It was introduced by Libby Holman in the revue Three's A Crowd and used as a soundtrack theme in the 1947 film named for the song. "Body and Soul" became a jazz standard, with hundreds of versions performed and recorded by dozens of artists. The most famous of these is the take recorded by Coleman Hawkins and His Orchestra on October 11, 1939 at their only recording session for Bluebird, a subsidiary of RCA Victor. Hawkins' solo on this take is considered to be "one of the finest examples of pure, spontaneous creative artistry in the history of jazz."[citation needed] It was one of the first straight jazz records (as against swing) to become a commercial hit. This was unusual, as the song's melody is never directly stated in the recording; saxophonist Hawkins two-choruses' worth of improvisation on the tune's chord progression constitute almost the entire take.[1] In 2004, it was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. About the composer. John Waldo Green was the son of musical parents, and was accepted by Harvard at the age of 15, entering the University in 1924. Between semesters, bandleader Guy Lombardo heard his Harvard ...

"You're Driving Me Crazy" (Rudy Vallee, 1930) Vermonter Rudy Vallee (of Island Pond) leading his NBC band, the Connecticut Yankees in Donaldson's "You're Driving Me Crazy (What Did I Do?)" YOU'RE DRIVING ME CRAZY You, you're driving me crazy. What did I do? What did I do? My tears for you make everything hazy Clouding the skies of blue. How true were the friends who were near me, to cheer me, believe me they knew That you were the kind who would hurt me, Desert me, when I needed you. Yes, you, you're driving me crazy... What did I do to you? More from Wiki: "You're Driving Me Crazy" is a US popular song composed (music and lyrics) by Walter Donaldson for the 1930 musical comedy Smiles. It was recorded the same year by Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians (with vocal by Carmen Lombardo) and became a hit. It was also recorded in 1930 by McKinney's Cotton Pickers and in 1931 by Rudy Vallee & His Connecticut Yankees and by Nick Lucas & His Crooning Troubadors. Nick Lucas's version, released on Brunswick, was a No. 7 hit: Brunswick 4987 (E-35404). In 1931, cartoon character Betty Boop sang a sexy version of the song in the pre-code cartoon Silly Scandal. As Boop sang the song, her dress slipped down repeatedly, revealing a lacy bra and causing her to squeal. Later in the song, Betty was joined on stage by a line of mechanical dancing penguins who stomped out the beat in accompaniment to her singing. "You're Driving Me Crazy" has become a standard that has been recorded by over 100 artists in many genres. The signature line ...

Where the strays are counted and branded there goes I I'm headin' for the last round-up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...Billy Hill was so desperate for money, he almost sold his best known song, The Last Round-Up, for just $25. Fortunately ASCAP President Gene Buck thought the song was so good, he loaned him $200 to hold him over until he could find a major publisher and get his song recorded. Hill immediately joined ASCAP. A few years later he testified before a Congressional Hearing Committee in Washington in ...

'Auld Lang Syne' by Robert Burns BACKGROUND "Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song (Roud # 6294). It is well known in many English-speaking countries and is often sung to celebrate the start of the new year at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day. The song's (Scots) title may be translated into English literally as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago" or "days gone by". The phrase "Auld Lang Syne" is also used in similar poems by Robert Ayton (15701638), Allan Ramsay (1686-1757), and James Watson (1711) as well as older folk songs predating Burns.[2] In his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language, Matthew Fitt uses the phrase "In the days of auld lang syne" as the equivalent of "Once upon a time." In Scots syne is pronounced like the English word sign. My photographs were taken in the last few days of 2008. The moon at the end of the fim was the last moonlight before we entered 2009. This year marks the 250th year since the birth of Robert Burns. Auld Lang Syne Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And auld lang syne? CHORUS: For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup of kindness yet, For auld lang syne! And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp, And surely I'll be mine, And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet, For auld lang syne! We twa hae run about the braes, And pou'd the gowans fine, But we've wander'd monie a weary fit ...
